Facebook and Twitter Needs More to Monitor their Networks

Abuse and harassment are the main issues on social media networks that are continuously creating problems for these sites. Now there is more need to improve the monitoring of the abused messages on these sites.

The director of Public Prosecutions, Keir Starmer, is trying to persuade the social media companies to take more measures on abuse and harassment messages. Keir Starmer says that Facebook and Twitter should take more responsibility for policing their networks in order to properly monitor the false and abused messages that are showing an increasing trend now days. Due to this factor, the numbers of cases that are coming to the court are also showing an increase.

During this week, 20 years old Azhar Ahmed was sentenced to 240 hours of community service on account of his Facebook post.

During the start of this week, a 12 week jail sentence was handed out Matthew Woods, who is a teenager who made sick jokes on Facebook abut the missing girl who is five years old April Jones. Another decision of the court came in the same week in which another man was sentenced against writing an abusive post about the death of British soldiers.

The director of Public Prosecutions is continuously consulting with lawyers, different journalists and other police professionals by conducting different seminars on the same issue. He is of the opinion that social media companies should improve their site moderation as the number of offensive and abusive material posts is continuously increasing.

During this week, 20 years old Azhar Ahmed was sentenced to 240 hours of community service on account of his Facebook post containing the words “ all soldiers should die and go to hell” following the death of six British soldiers. He is from Dewsbury.

The police is also of the opinion that Facebook and Twitter should act fast in order to delete the offensive comments as this will save the time of police to arrest the concerned person. The police is also showing great concern that social media sites should try to explore new ways to block such individuals from using their networks.
