Apple’s Share in the Tablet Market Drops by More Than 50%

After getting the highest marks in different products, the Apple is now facing some problems in getting the appropriate share in the tablet market.

According to the IDC’s latest report, the Apple’s share in the tablet market has dropped to about 50.4% in the third quarter of 2012. This figure has come down from 59.7% as compared to the same period of last year.

On contrary to the Apple, the Samsung has experienced significant growth in the tablet market. This figure has shown an upward trend and has raised the level from 6.5% to 18.4% in the same period.

According to the IDC report, the Amazon stands at the third place with 9% share. After the Amazon, Asus is at the fourth place having 8.6% share and at the fifth place there is Lenovo with 1.4% share.

There was an old Silicon Valley joke, which claimed that “there is no tablet market, only an iPad market”. But as this report indicates, the tablet market has shown the significant growth over the some past years and the number of those customers has also increased that are now using the tablets.

The tablets of other manufacturers hold about 12.2% share in the third quarter of the 2012. The share of Asus has also improved from 3.8% to 8.6% after showing the total growth of more than 242%.

According to the findings of the IDC, Samsung has shipped more than 5.1 million tablets worldwide in the third quarter of 2012. This figure has shown a growth of more than 115% as compared to the 2nd quarter of 2012. This figure is also up by more than 325% from the 3rd quarter of 2011. This reveals the confidence of the general public on the devices designed and developed by Samsung has been increased considerably.

The performance of the Amazon after the introduction of the kindle fire has also been improved. The demand of this tablet is also increasing day by day and the officials of the company are quite hopeful that by the end of the fourth quarter, the growth figure will be entered in the double digit figure.

The Apple has recently launched a new and more improved and advanced product, iPad mini. The impact of this product’s sale figure will be seen at the end of the fourth quarter. The analysts of the market are of the opinion that Apple will soon come back to its original pace as the preorders of this device have set new records.
